Andusia Sign Clinical Waste Contract with phs Group

Andusia Hazchem Treatment has signed a contract with the UK’s leading facilities services provider, phs Group, for the supply of clinical waste disposal at the new Malvern waste treatment plant, where Andusia is the sole supplier.

The plant, which has been developed in an existing, retired plant, is the first of its kind to be built in the UK in the last decade and will become operational this month after experiencing construction delays due to Covid-19.

phs Group provides facilities services including healthcare, washroom and floorcare to more than 120,000 customers over 300,000 locations nationwide. It supports industries across all sectors from restaurants to offices and hospitals to schools.

David Taylor-Smith, Group CEO of phs Group, said: “At phs, we’re always trying to provide good value and sustainable solutions for our customers. phs is at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19 supporting hundreds of Covid testing and vaccination sites and this new long term partnership will guarantee the safe and hygienic disposal of a significant portion of the clinical waste we handle. This new infrastructure is vital to the national clinical waste disposal capacity and phs is excited to work with Andusia over the coming years.”

The collaboration will see clinical waste being treated at the Worcestershire based plant over the next three years.

In addition to the new Malvern plant, from quarter three of this year, Andusia will also be the sole supplier to the largest clinical waste treatment plant built in the last 20 years in Stoke-on-Trent.

Andusia Director, Mark Terrell, commented, “There is a real lack of UK facilities to deal with hazardous and clinical waste. The new Malvern and Stoke plants fulfil much needed demand and Andusia are proud to be part of such important projects.”

Mark ended, “We are delighted to join forces with phs Group, a highly respected and experienced clinical waste services provider and look forward to the working relationship ahead!”

Disposal of clinical waste through high temperature treatment offers a high level of safety and minimises environmental impact, turning dangerous and infectious clinical waste into nothing but gas, ash and heat.
