Andusia’s Top News Stories in 2021

As yet another unusual year comes to an end, we are looking back at our top 5 news stories of 2021…

In at number 5

In June, Andusia announced that due to business growth, we were making the move to a new location. Despite only moving round the corner, the new office premises accounts for three times the size of our previous facility, opening even more opportunities for Andusia.

At number 4

We gave an update on the Stoke-based clinical waste treatment plant, of which Andusia are sole supplier (previously announced in 2020). The two-and-a-half-acre site was making great progress as it looked to apply for its environmental permit.

Making the top 3

In June we sent out a reassuring message about Andusia’s resilience despite the ever-changing external environment. With exports down by 37% in 2020 compared to the previous year (published by the Environment Agency), the waste industry showed significant influences from the coronavirus pandemic. Nonetheless, Andusia demonstrated strength after strength, after reporting only an 11% decrease in exports, comparative to a 58-69% decrease from competitors.

At number 2

In October, we shared our thoughts on the benefits of bulk shipping. Despite historically always providing a baled and wrapped delivery service in curtain-siders and containers, Andusia shared the environmental and financial benefits bulk shipping provides. We reinforced our commitment to bulk shipping, thinking environmentally forward, ensuring safety, and creating innovative solutions to tackle any supply chain/logistics troubles.

Placing in the top spot at number 1

Another update about our Stoke Clinical Waste plant was released in October as it was awarded its environmental permit. This marked a huge milestone in the plants progress as we look towards construction completion in January 2022 with the first waste load being burnt in February 2022. Andusia will be supplying up to 16,000 tonnes per annum of hazardous and clinical waste, comprising namely of bagged yellow, orange and ‘tiger stripe’ waste, for high temperature treatment under a long-term contract.

Thank you for your continued support throughout 2021 and we look forward to sharing more news with you in 2022. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Andusia team!
