Inflation is on the increase with food, fuel and energy prices hitting record highs. In fact, UK inflation has hit a 40-year high with the Bank of England warning it could reach up to 11% by the end of the year.
Not only does this grim news impact individuals cost of living and household finances but businesses too… The waste industry is not excluded from this.
The UK Government’s tax on landfill increases year on year and 2022 was no different. In April this year landfill tax increased from £96.70 to £98.60 per tonne. The tax will increase further next April, in line with the Retail Price Index, which could see an increase of as much as £10 per tonne. Putting landfill tax in the hundreds for the first time.
Also taking into consideration site gate fees and transport – landfill is an extremely unattractive prospect for those in the waste management industry.
Fortunately the waste disposal industry is an adaptable one and Andusia are here to help. Andusia collects RDF from waste management companies in the UK and delivers it for recovery at Energy from Waste plants across Europe. With ever increasing landfill taxes and landfill sites beginning to shut, it has never been a better time to consider RDF export.
EfW facilities traditionally apply RPI to waste suppliers gate fees. However with their secondary source of income, electricity supply, practically quadrupling, they are better protected from rising RPI than most other industries.
