New EfW Plant in Newport

In January 2020, Andusia announced they are to be sole waste supplier to a new Energy from Waste (EfW) plant currently under construction in Newport, South Wales. Construction of the Alexandra Docks plant starts early this year.

From 2024, Andusia will be supplying 220,000 tonnes of RDF per annum under a 25 year deal. Once operational, the plant will provide enough energy to the grid to power 50,000 homes each year – in addition to helping reduce UK landfill.

RDF will be largely sourced from South Wales industrial, commercial and municipal waste; and will become an integral part of Newport’s waste management plan going forward.

Recognising WRAP Cymru’s recent waste composition report entitled ‘Commercial and Industrial Waste in Wales’, it is important to note the RDF will comprise of residual waste, with all recyclable materials removed.

The conventional EfW plant will be utilising tried and tested technology in the incineration process, ensuring protection of the environment.

Leading up the commissioning of the new site, we will be detailing the progress here. Keep checking back for updates. If you would like to speak to Andusia about your RDF offtake, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01992 666257 or email enquiries@andusia.co.uk.
