Andusia is officially confirmed as the UK’s latest exporter of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for the past 12 months, according to latest industry figures.
January’s ‘RDF Activity Report’ published by Footprint Services shows that from January 2024 to January 2025, Andusia was ranked as the top exporter in terms of volume, exporting 352,183 tonnes of waste during the 52-week period.
The report also highlights that Andusia has achieved an impressive year-on-year growth rate of 43% and now jointly leads in terms of average market share (19.5%) along with its closest competitor Geminor (19.5%).
Reflecting on this market share further, the study states: “Since 2018, Geminor has held the lead, but this month [January] shows Andusia nudging ahead of Geminor, and displaying strong momentum” adding that “a shift at the top seems likely.”
Commenting on the findings, Steve Burton, co-founder and director of Andusia, said: “This is a simply fantastic way to start 2025, as the UK’s number one RDF exporter. It’s a goal we have worked hard towards achieving and I feel it’s one we richly deserve. I really want to thank our team for all their dedication and effort in making this happen.”
Steve continued: “I would also like to express my gratitude towards our customers and suppliers in helping us achieve this incredible milestone. We really value these partnerships, and we will continue to invest in them by doing what we do best – moving waste to where it needs to go in the most reliable and efficient way possible.”
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, the Footprint report points to the Netherlands as being a market to watch following the operational return of AVR’s facility together with the UK due to the expansion of energy-from-waste (EfW) capacity and rising landfill taxes, both of which could push more waste into the EfW sector, thus influencing RDF market dynamics further.
