Andusia Announce Sole Supplier Contract to Largest Clinical Waste Plant in UK for 20 Years
Andusia are pleased to announce that they have been confirmed as the sole waste supplier to the largest clinical waste treatment plant built in the UK for 20 years, on the site of a previous biomass facility site in Stoke-on-Trent.
EfW plant developer, Waste Energy Power Partners (WEPP) completed the purchase of the existing facility on Scotia Business Park, following planning approval in March 2020.
Simon Brown, Director of WEPP commented on the announcement “We are delighted to begin construction of our second clinical waste treatment plant in Stoke on Trent. The importance of safe and effective treatment of the UK’s clinical waste has never been more apparent in these difficult times, and WEPP is proud to be leading the effort to provide this capability across the UK.”
The current two and-a-half acre site is being re-developed as a state-of-the-art facility to safely and effectively treat clinical and other hazardous waste streams whilst generating electricity that will be put into the local grid. Construction will start in the coming weeks on the £25 million Clinical Energy Recovery Facility, which is expected to be fully operational in Q3 2021.
From Autumn 2021, Andusia will be supplying up to 16,000 tonnes per annum of hazardous and clinical waste for high temperature treatment under a long-term contract. The new facility will use both SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and SNCR (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction) to filter emissions before being discharged to the air, making it one of the lowest emitting sites in the UK.
The deal is Andusia’s second collaboration with WEPP, following a similar sole supplier contract to a hazardous waste plant in Malvern, Worcestershire; being commissioned in the Summer. Both plants will operate under the Clinitek brand.
Commenting on the plant, Steve Burton, Andusia’s Managing Director, said “We are proud and pleased to continue to partner with WEPP on this new development, which will help provide much needed infrastructure to the clinical and hazardous waste market in the UK. This will expand upon our already successful UK waste supply contracts of which we plan to develop further this year.”
The plant is being funded by leading UK infrastructure investor, Equitix. Cobalt Energy Limited have been appointed to build and operate the plant whilst Incinco is providing the technology for the project and will supply “one of its largest medical waste treatment units, the FS2000” for the project.
