Andusia ranked UK’s top RDF exporter for summer 2024

Andusia has been confirmed as the UK’s largest exporter of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) this summer, according to latest industry figures.

A recent ‘RDF Activity Report’ published by Footprint Services shows that over the months of June, July and August, Andusia’s market share averaged 22% – seven percentage points above our nearest competitor Geminor, who averaged 15% market share during this period.

The study also shows that exports of waste-derived fuels continue to grow according to shipment data up to the end of August with an increase of nearly 11%, highlighting significant gains in exports to emerging markets such as Finland, Cyprus, Portugal, Lithuania, Belgium and Senegal.

“Destinations other than the Top 5 of Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Norway and Denmark account for around 10% of waste derived fuel exports, and these ‘others’ have increased their fuel imports by +13% in the past year, so are worth taking note of,” the report states.

Equally positive, the study finds that the UK continues to be regarded as a reliable partner within Europe as RDF export market becomes more diverse, noting its ability to offer quality, consistency and strong partnerships.

Commenting on these latest developments, Steve Burton, co-founder and director of Andusia, said that the company’s ability to navigate any blips in the market and offer an all-year round service was paying dividends.

“We had a great summer, and it’s fantastic to see this reflected in our export performance. We pride ourselves on undertaking reliable collections and logistics so we can keep waste moving to where it needs to go,” he said.

Burton added: “Each week we oversee the export of almost 8,000 tonnes of RDF. Nobody loves moving waste as much as we do!”
