Stoke Based Clinical Waste Plant Well Underway

Construction of the Stoke-based clinical waste treatment plant, of which Andusia are sole supplier, is well underway. Progress has continued this month with EfW developer, Waste Energy Power Partners (WEPP) applying for the plants environmental permit. The Environment Agency have opened consultation on the permit, running until 4th June.

The plant, located on Scotia Road, Stoke-on-Trent, is due to be operational this Summer.

The two and-a-half acre site is being re-developed as a state-of-the-art facility to safely and effectively treat clinical and other hazardous waste streams whilst generating electricity and heat that will be recovered for export and use on site. The plant is to be the largest built in the UK in 20 years, on the site of a previous biomass facility.

From Summer 2021, Andusia will be supplying up to 16,000 tonnes per annum of hazardous and clinical waste, comprising namely of bagged yellow, orange and ‘tiger stripe’ waste, for high temperature treatment under a long-term contract.

The deal is Andusia’s second collaboration with WEPP, following a similar sole supplier contract to a clinical waste treatment plant in Malvern, Worcestershire; now operational.

You can find a list of EWC codes and the type of waste that will be accepted at Stoke here on our website.
